This week we talked about the three dominant models of the atonement: Christus Victor, moral influence, and satisfaction/penal substitution. Then we discussed Anselm's doctrine of satisfaction, how it morphed into penal substitution during and after the Reformation, and some of the contemporary debates surrounding God's wrath and penal substitution. Unfortunately, we had to do a pretty quick fly-by over this last part. A few of us had a sizzling discussion following up on the last ten minutes or so, but that, alas, was not recorded.
